Helen Sims - Administrator & Owner

Mary Ellen Thompson’s leadership, commitment and passion for excellence continue today through her daughter, owner and administrator, Helen Sims. As the second generation leading the day-to-day operations of our family-owned facility, Ms. Sims credits her mother’s residency at Superior Care Home as a significant factor in her success as an administrator and owner.

“Having my own mother in our community as a resident and feeling her loss strengthened my dedication as an owner and administrator. That experience gave me unique insight into the individual needs of residents and family members, and a special appreciation for our employees and the care they give. It has afforded me a valuable connection with staff, residents and their loved ones.”

Michael Sims - Management and Finance

Mike Sims joined his mother, Helen Sims, 14 years ago, as the third generation to embrace Mary Ellen Thompson's vision and legacy. As a young boy, he dutifully mowed the facility lawn on weekends and visited with his grandmother who was, at that time, a Superior Care Home resident. Little did he know that he would one day continue in her footsteps. Today he spends his time managing daily operations and facility finances. Mike has been a driving force in modernizing facility operations and implementing technologies to meet the changing needs of our industry, staff and residents.

" Since joining my mother 14 years ago, the needs and expectations of our residents have changed significantly and will continue to evolve as we prepare to serve the next generation of seniors. My grandmother’s entrepreneurial spirit and desire for excellence continues to inspire me each day, as we plan for a future that will continue to exceed the expectations of the Paducah community and seniors we serve."

Tonya Sensing - Assistant Administrator

Tonya began her career with Superior Care Home as social services director 14 years ago, and currently serves as assistant administrator. She plays a key role in coordinating hospital referrals, introducing prospective residents and families to Superior Care Home, verifying Medicare, Medicaid and insurance benefits, and ensuring resident satisfaction as an administrative representative in care plan conferences.

“I think administrative involvement in care plan conferences is an important factor in our facility’s reputation for excellence. It shows families and residents that administration is actively involved in all aspects of the facility and also wants to hear and address any questions or concerns they have. It is so gratifying to me when a family and resident are at first hesitant about coming to a skilled nursing facility for rehabilitation, but leave having had a great experience with outcomes they didn’t know were possible.”

Doralyn Warren, RN - Director of Nursing

Dorayln’s nursing career has been dedicated to the long-term care industry. When she came to work for Superior Care Home, she planned to be here only 30 days. That was 33 years ago. From staff nurse to her current position as director of nursing, Doralyn’s commitment to our residents and their quality of life remains steadfast. She is passionate about geriatric nursing. Her service, leadership and passion for quality care are key factors in our facility’s ongoing reputation for excellence.

“The warm, home-like environment of our facility and the respectful, caring attitudes of our entire team set Superior Care Home apart from other facilities. We are focused on providing quality, loving care to each of the residents who enter our community. While it is gratifying to hear residents express their appreciation for the care we provide, I love knowing that our team has simply done what we are called to do each day … provide nothing less than superior care. This leaves me with a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.”

As a former business owner, office manager and assisted-living executive director, Nancy came to Superior Care Home two years ago to capably manage our business office. Often working behind the scenes, her most visible responsibility is the preparation and processing of resident billings. Nancy’s value to Superior Care Home residents and families extends well beyond her office door. She has a genuine interest in getting to know each resident and family on a personal level with genuine concern for each individual’s well-being.

“I go the extra step to make a personal connection with our residents and their families. The most gratifying aspect of my job at Superior Care Home is seeing residents laughing and having fun.”

She plays a pivotal role in making sure our residents have everything they need for a comfortable, safe and satisfying stay.

“An essential part of providing excellent care is taking the time to get to know residents and their families. Each and every one of our residents is special to me, and I truly enjoy spending time with them to make sure they are comfortable here and their needs are being met. Often, it takes just five minutes of simple conversation to bring smiles to their faces.”

“Watching our residents re-integrate back into the community with success is one of the most gratifying aspects of my job. We have a highly qualified team of rehab professionals, with varied areas of expertise. But our common thread is compassionate care and meeting the unique needs and desires of each resident to help them achieve functional outcomes and better quality of life.”

Josie Fehrenbacher, RD, LD - Registered Dietitian

A love of food led Josie Fehrenbacher to become a registered dietitan. It is her love of the elderly that led her to Superior Care Home. As our registered dietitan, Josie works closely with our dietary and nursing teams to ensure each resident is receiving optimal nurtirition and hydration for their unique needs. She is as comfortable discussing a tube feeding formula with a physician as she is visiting with residents as they enjoy a meal in the dining room. Her warm, friendly smile and caring spirit can be seen throughout the facility each day, working with resdients, families and staff to make meal time not only therapetuic, but enjoyable.

"I love working with the elderly. Nutrition is such an important part of their overall health, well-being and happiness. So many times, when seniors live alone, nutrition suffers. They often eat poorly. They may not always follow diet modifications. Or they may be on medications that can lead to nutritional issues or deficiencies. I am always pleased to see our residents' strength, energy level and over-all outlook improve when they receive a proper diet and balanced meals. It's only a part of the equation in their recovery, but an important one."

Judy Sledd - Dietary Manager

Judy leads our dietary team in planning, preparing and serving meals that are delicious and meet diverse dietary needs. While ensuring resident nutritional needs and food preferences are met, Judy is also committed to making our residents’ dining experience enjoyable — and a highlight of their day.

“I love what I do. At Superior Care Home, we go above and beyond each day as a team to do whatever needs to be done to meet our residents’ needs. Our dietary department strives to meet dietary needs and provide our residents with enjoyable meals. I know we have made a difference when I see the happiness in their faces.”
