Determination and Independent Spirit Facilitates 92 Year Old’s Recovery and Return Home
A fall at home shortly before the holidays left 92 year old, Hester Guess with an ankle fracture, complicated by lower extremity blood clots. When it was time to leave the hospital, she found herself in unfamiliar territory...she was unable to go home alone and take care of herself. “I have never had to depend upon anyone”, she recalls, “but I took the advice of a trusted physician and came to Superior Care Home. He said it was the only place to go for rehab.”
To say that Hester Guess is a spirited individual is an understatement. She worked diligently with therapists during her 3 month stay. “Everyone was so caring and went out of their way to help me regain my strength. When I came I could not walk. Now I can not only walk again, but can even go up and down steps. There is no place like home, but if you need rehab, this is the ideal situation.”
The morning of her discharge, she was up at 4:00 AM, packed her own things, dressed and was relaxing in the lobby long before it was time to discharge. She was anxious, to say the least, to get home. The first thing on her agenda...go through the house room by room and get rid of “excess stuff”. “When you are 92 and you go through something like this, you begin to realize what is really important. It’s not about the stuff anymore.”
